About the Campaign
We are building a grassroots campaign focused on fixing the biggest challenges facing Los Angeles and restoring opportunity across the city.
Our campaign is driven by strong community engagement and a high-volume, fast-moving digital operation. We are producing a significant amount of video and content and are looking for someone to ensure that content reaches the right audiences, drives engagement, and shapes the narrative across Los Angeles.
Position Overview
The Digital Engagement Manager will be responsible for how, when, and where the campaign shows up online.
This role owns the distribution of content across platforms, manages audience engagement, and leads the campaign’s digital rapid response operation.
Working closely with the Digital Content Producer and communications team, this person will ensure that content is deployed strategically, reaches the right audiences, and drives meaningful engagement and growth.
The role is based in the campaign’s Westside office.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Content Distribution & Platform Strategy
- Determine when, where, and how content is posted across Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, and YouTube.
- Manage posting schedules and ensure consistent, high-frequency output.
- Tailor content distribution strategies for each platform.
- Optimize timing, format, and cadence to maximize reach and engagement.
- Work closely with the Digital Content Producer to align content production with platform strategy.
Audience Engagement & Growth
- Oversee and execute engagement across all social platforms.
- Drive follower growth and engagement through active participation and platform-native tactics.
- Respond to comments, direct messages, and supporter interactions in a timely and strategic manner.
- Foster a strong, positive, and active online community.
- Identify and activate highly engaged supporters.
Comment Moderation & Channel Management
- Maintain the tone and quality of conversation across all campaign channels.
- Manage spam, misinformation, and harmful or disruptive comments.
- Exercise judgment in responding to criticism and sensitive topics.
- Escalate high-risk issues and high-visibility opportunities to campaign leadership.
Digital Rapid Response
- Lead the campaign’s digital rapid response function.
- Leverage our AI tools to monitor news, social media, and online conversations related to the mayor’s race.
- Coordinate responses to articles, narratives, and online commentary.
- Manage a small team or group of volunteers supporting rapid response efforts.
- Ensure the campaign is actively participating in relevant conversations in real time.
Cross-Team Coordination
- Work closely with the content, communications, and field teams.
- Align digital distribution with campaign messaging and priorities.
- Support email communications to campaign supporters.
- Ensure rapid response and content deployment are coordinated with broader campaign strategy.
Qualifications
- Strong written communication skills and comfort engaging with audiences across social media platforms.
- Deep familiarity with major platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, and YouTube.
- Strong understanding of how content performs across different platforms.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-volume digital environment.
- Experience with social media management, digital strategy, or campaigns is strongly preferred.
- Experience working on a political campaign, issue advocacy effort, or communications team is a plus.
- Strong judgment and ability to handle sensitive or political content.
- Highly organized and responsive.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- A typical day in this role may include:
- Reviewing content from the Digital Content Producer and determining posting strategy
- Publishing and scheduling content across platforms
- Monitoring and responding to comments and messages
- Tracking engagement and adjusting posting strategy in real time
- Monitoring news and social media for relevant developments
- Coordinating rapid response efforts with the campaign team
- Managing and directing digital volunteers supporting engagement and response
