Supporting the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Aviation Management Unit
About the Role
Join the team that supports CAL FIRE’s aviation operations protecting communities across California. Logistic Specialties, Inc. (LSI), the Aviation Logistics Support Contractor for CAL FIRE, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Supervisor to lead industrial safety and hazardous materials compliance across aviation support facilities.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing safety programs, regulatory compliance, hazardous materials management, and environmental health initiatives that directly support wildfire aviation operations.
What You’ll Do
Lead and manage the site Industrial Safety and Environmental Health program
Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA Title 8 (including 5192 & 5194), DOT, EPA, DTSC, and California Fire Code requirements
Oversee hazardous materials handling, storage, disposal, and manifest tracking
Conduct facility safety audits and environmental compliance inspections
Lead incident investigations and provide corrective action recommendations
Develop and maintain safety programs (IIPP, HazCom, HMBP, training programs)
Coordinate with CAL FIRE Aviation Safety leadership on compliance matters
Supervise at least two Facility Maintenance Workers and provide safety leadership and mentorship
Deliver and document required safety and Hazwoper training
Participate in regulatory inspections and maintain permit compliance tracking
Requirements
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety or related field
Experience with hazardous materials handling and compliance
Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA, DOT, EPA, and state fire code regulations
Experience developing or managing safety programs (IIPP, HazCom, etc.)
40-hour Hazwoper training (current or prior)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
30-hour CAL/OSHA compliance course
Experience participating in DTSC, Fire Marshal, or CAL/OSHA inspections
Aviation, industrial, or government contractor environment experience
Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety or related field
Work Environment
Aviation logistics and industrial facility setting
Combination of field oversight and administrative program management
Direct coordination with CAL FIRE Aviation Safety leadership
Final candidates must pass a background check and drug screening in accordance with applicable laws.
