What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a Year Round Undergraduate Clerical Intern to support managers, staff, and administrative professionals in Center 8600, the Biological, Earth Systems, Radiation and Signature Science and Technology Center.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Support office functions, including administrative processes.
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook in performing daily operations.
- Work closely with administrative professionals to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner, learn best practices, and develop a comprehensive understanding of administrative functions.
- Engage with staff to provide support, address questions, and assist with organizational duties.
- Assist in preparation of documents, including forms, reports, slides, charts, etc. in accordance with Sandia's policies and procedures.
- Assist in editing and formatting documents for both internal and external recipients.
- Assist in handling telephone communications and receiving visitors, which includes ascertaining the nature of calls or visits; taking messages or scheduling appointments; responding to routine questions; and/or referring individuals to appropriate sources of information.
- Be an information resource to managers and staff.
- Assist in placing purchase orders and supply orders.
- Assist with meeting preparation, including copying and collating.
- Assist with the upkeep of building records, such as rosters, space documents, phone, and data port logs, etc.
- Assist with special event planning.
- Assist with mail distribution and mailbox upkeep.
Salary Range
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.

About Our Team
The Proliferation Signatures Discovery and Exploitation Department applies deep knowledge of optical sensing techniques to topics of relevance to Sandia and the nation. With backgrounds primarily in laser physics and chemistry, the group focuses on applications in hyperspectral sensing, trace particle detection and attribution and atmospheric measurement and modeling. In addition, the department is working on developing new laser technologies and new laser-based capabilities, such as quantum sensing. The work is supported by various internal and external customers.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
