Overview
New York University's Counseling and Wellness Services is seeking to hire a per diem psychiatrist for 14 hours/week with experience working with diverse student populations in a fast paced setting. The ideal candidates are mission-focused team players, flexible with their time, work locations, and ability to provide coverage while working within an interdisciplinary team; proactive; creative in problem-solving approaches; quality focused; and see the provision of services to underrepresented populations, and in particular, communities of color, as part of their career goals. An appreciation of the developmental psychological issues of transitional age youth in a collegiate setting is a prerequisite.This position will report to the Counseling and Wellness Services in the NYU Student Health Center and will be part of the Psychiatric Services in Counseling and Wellness Services, a unit within NYU Student Affairs. Position Responsibilities:Provide clinical assessment and state-of the art pharmacolgical treatment to a diverse student population; provide consultation to clinical staff regarding psychiatric status of students in crisis and assess their ability to function in an academic setting; provide supervision for psychiatric residents and mentorship for medical students; participate in training and professional development activities; provide crisis assessment and intervention services; practice in accordance with appropriate legal and ethical standards. Responsibilities will also include assessing suicidal concerns and when appropriate, arranging for hospitalization, assessing severity of presenting problems, formulating treatment plans, and providing appropriate psychiatric interventions which may include referral for long-term treatment off campus.
Responsibilities
Required Education:Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy; NYS license and DEA certification Required Qualifications:Two years of clinical experience post graduation from a psychiatric residency training are required. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible with intent to become board certified.Completion of psychiatric fellowship programs is a plus. Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and experience working with underrepresented populations, and in particular communities of color, is required. Experience working with diverse student populations is preferred.
