Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is recruiting Psychiatrists in three separate practice areas to join our collaborative Mental Health & Addictions program. Each role is distinct in scope and focus, while benefiting from shared infrastructure, strong interdisciplinary teams, and a culture that values physician input and flexibility. For those with an interest in addictions psychiatry, there are abundant opportunities to develop this area of practice.
1. Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Inpatient, Outpatient & Urgent Care
This role provides psychiatric care for children and adolescents across acute and community-based settings.
Practice highlights include:
6-bed Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (CAPU)
Family & Youth Clinic (outpatient assessment and treatment)
Child & Adolescent Urgent Care Clinic
Consultation to the Pediatric Medical Unit
Opportunities to support:
Eating Disorders programming
Dual Diagnosis Community Consultation (in partnership with CMHA and Tri-County Behavioural Services)
The role offers a mix of urgent and scheduled care and can be tailored to specific clinical interests. Strong collaboration with families, schools, community partners, and local First Nations communities is a core feature of this program.
2. General Adult Psychiatrist
Adult Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Psychiatry & Consultation-Liaison
This role focuses on the care of adults with moderate to severe mental illness across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Practice highlights include:
24-bed Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit
3-bed Crisis Response Unit (CRU) located in the Emergency Department, with nursing staff providing 24-hour crisis assessments and monitoring
Adult Outpatient Program with:
Rapid Assessment Program (RAP)
Urgent Care Clinic
Mood & Anxiety and Complex Trauma streams
Evidence-based individual and group psychotherapies
Neurofeedback (psychology-supported)
Consultation-Liaison services across medical and surgical units
Neurostimulation program (ECT; rTMS expansion planned)
This is an excellent opportunity for psychiatrists interested in breadth of practice, interdisciplinary care, and program development, with optional teaching involvement.
3. Geriatric Psychiatrist
Outpatient, Outreach & Inpatient Geriatric Care
This role focuses on mental health care for older adults through both hospital-based and regional services.
Practice highlights include:
Psychiatric Assessment Services for the Elderly (PASE), with community and long-term care outreach to:
Northumberland
Haliburton
City of Kawartha Lakes
Integrated Geriatric Medicine Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison service
12-bed Geriatric Assessment Behavioural Unit (GABU)
Opportunities to co-facilitate CBT Depression & Anxiety groups
This position offers the chance to work within a highly specialized, well-supported psychogeriatric team, addressing complex cognitive, behavioural, and psychiatric needs.

Requirements
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Position Qualifications:
-Fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent (e.g. American
Board Certification)
-Currently registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible to obtain registration-Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
-Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre
-Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, allied health, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
-Demonstrated interest in patient safety and
quality improvement
Adult Psychiatry Position Qualifications:
-Currently registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or willing to obtain registration
-Currently registered with or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
-Fellow Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or eligible
-Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
-Demonstrated analytical ability
-Actively encourage a spirit of co-operation amongst team members
-Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre
-Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
-Interested or has experience working with complex developmental trauma and borderline personality disorder
Geriatric Psychiatry Position Qualifications:
-Currently registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or willing to obtain registration
-Currently registered with or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
-Fellow Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or eligible
-Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
-Demonstrated analytical ability
-Actively encourage a spirit of co-operation amongst team members
-Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre
-Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
