Contract Type: Permanent Full-Time (80 hours per fortnight)
Summary
The Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) is seeking a Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist Psychiatrist to join the Rehabilitation Mental Health Services Program Area at Townsville University Hospital. This senior role combines clinical practice, teaching, research, and leadership within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
You will provide specialist care to consumers requiring secure rehabilitation services, working alongside by psychiatrists, registrars, and resident medical officers. Experience in forensic psychiatry will be highly regarded. As a University Hospital, THHS also offers opportunities to participate in academic and research activities through its partnership with James Cook University.

The Role
- Provide high quality clinical care within the Rehabilitation Mental Health Services Program Area.
- Contribute to teaching and research through THHS’s partnership with James Cook University.
- Lead and collaborate with a supportive multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, registrars, and resident medical officers.
- Deliver care to consumers with complex rehabilitation needs requiring secure treatment environments, ensuring recovery is supported by a holistic, team-based approach.
Candidate Requirements
- Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or eligibility to obtain this.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist (FRANZCP or equivalent.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality clinical care, teaching, and research.
- Experience in rehabilitation psychiatry’ familiarity with forensic psychiatry principles will be highly regarded.

- Remuneration package up to AUD $536,916 p.a. (L18-L27).
