Department Details
The Operations Director of the Sanford Reference Laboratory in Sioux Falls, SD, oversees an exciting and growing laboratory. Current testing includes Infectious Disease, Special Chemistry, and Molecular with the planned implementation of Mass Spec and Microbiology Automation. Additional leaders that assist in the oversight and operations of the laboratory include a Chemistry PhD, a Microbiology PhD, and a Clinical/Molecular Pathologist. Pathology resident, MLS students, and MLT students are all an integral part of our teaching and learning environment. Partnering with an Operations Director for laboratory client services, the two leaders function as the drivers of growth and innovation for the laboratory.
Job Summary
Responsible for providing administrative leadership, expertise, and direction to the Laboratory Departments. Develops and monitors appropriate indicators for quality and continuous improvement. Manages the operations of the laboratory departments including human resources, budget and finance, and legal and regulatory compliance. Expected to effectively interview, hire, counsel, discipline and, when needed, terminate employees. Supports and mentors managers and supervisors when dealing with staffing, personnel, or process issues. Serves as a resource and primary laboratory contact and represents the laboratory on an interdisciplinary and enterprise level. Has major responsibility for implementing the vision and mission of the organization within the departments. Expected to contribute to the strategic planning process and attainment of goals of the organization.
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in medical laboratory science or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
Five years of management experience desired.
Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
