The Opportunity

CCWD is seeking a Backflow and Cross-Connection Inspector with experience in water system installations to help safeguard public health by protecting the water supply from contamination. This position locates, inspects, and tests backflow prevention devices to ensure compliance with safe drinking water standards and federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations; investigates plumbing systems to identify cross-connection hazards; conducts cross-connection inspections; and performs related duties as assigned.

Key responsibilities

• Locating, inspecting, testing, and repairing new and existing backflow prevention assemblies within the service area.
• Investigating plumbing systems to identify cross-connection hazards and recommend solutions.
• Conducting cross-connection and reclaimed water site inspections.
• Operating, maintaining, and cleaning the necessary equipment and vehicles.
• Ensuring compliance with safety rules and protocols.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  

Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.   

Experience: One (1) year of experience with a water utility involving public contact work and minor mechanical duties or equivalent experience with complaint investigation and adjustment of mechanical control devices. 

Licenses and Certifications: 
Possession of a valid California driver's license to be maintained throughout employment. 
Possession and maintenance of a valid Cross Connection Control Tester certificate issued by the American Water Works Association is required.
