OverviewBig Canyon Country Club provides a structured entry point into elite private club operations for a motivated professional looking to build a fundamental skillset in the golf industry. Founded in 1971, our club is a premier private equity facility in Newport Beach with a long-standing reputation for operational excellence and hosting championship events.
We are currently in the final stages of a comprehensive golf course renovation led by architect Andrew Green . Joining our team during this pivotal relaunch gives an incoming professional an immersive, hands-on look at how a top-tier private operation organizes, executes, and scales its daily services from the ground up.
Mentorship & Training
We view this position as the vital first step in your career path toward becoming a head professional. Our leadership team focuses heavily on foundational training, offering direct, daily mentoring in high-end tournament software execution, luxury retail inventory management, and hands-on staff coordination.
This role is designed to give you complete visibility into daily golf operations within a sustainable workplace culture:
- Rotational Scheduling: We structure our schedules to ensure predictable days off, allowing you to maintain an active personal life outside of work.
- Professional Development: We provide active guidance for those currently navigating the PGA Associate program, ensuring you have the study time and operational context needed to complete your work successfully.
Experience Required
- PGA Status: Current PGA Associate Level 1 or Level 2
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience at a private golf facility, with a strong desire to learn elite club standards.
- Tech Foundations: Familiarity with or a strong willingness to learn Golf Genius, Clubessential, and modern instructional tools.
- Work Ethic: A highly organized individual with a professional presentation and the ability to effectively communicate with both staff and a discerning membership.
Essential Responsibilities
This position centers on the daily execution of our core operations and front-facing member hospitality. Working closely with our First Assistant and Head Golf Professional, your daily focus will include:
- Daily Member Service: Maintain a highly visible presence assisting as the course starter and in the golf shop, assisting members with daily check-ins, tracking pace of play, and answering operational inquiries.
- Front-Line Operations: Supervise the daily setup and presentation of the practice facilities, bag room, and staging areas, ensuring our outside team executes our service standards consistently.
- Tournament Execution: Work directly within Golf Genius to handle weekly league setups, daily play tracking, and member event scoring logistics.
- Instructional Support: Gain valuable teaching hours by assisting senior staff with our junior golf programs, ladies' clinics, and introductory member player development initiatives.
- Retail & Equipment Services: Manage daily point-of-sale transactions, assist with receiving and tracking new merchandise inventory, and learn high-end custom club fitting protocols.
