SAGE Concord is seeking an Assistant Medical Director (AMD) to join our growing team and help shape the future of a collaborative, multispecialty veterinary hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a veterinarian who is ready to expand their leadership impact while remaining actively engaged in clinical medicine, as this role is fully-clinical. In this position, the Assistant Medical Director will partner closely with other leaders as we focus on growing our practice.
Located in the East Bay, SAGE Concord is a 25,000-square-foot hospital with 18,000 square feet of dedicated clinical space, bringing multispecialty, Emergency, and Integrative Medicine services together under one roof. Our hospital was thoughtfully designed to support collaboration, with a strong team of veterinary nurses and clinicians working together to provide high-quality, compassionate, and fear-free care.
As Assistant Medical Director, you'll partner closely with the Medical Director, Hospital Director, and Ethos Regional Leadership Team to support the medical team, strengthen hospital culture, and help drive clinical and operational excellence. Your Impact as Assistant Medical Director
In this clinical and leadership role, you will help:
- Support the medical team and serve as a trusted clinical resource and medical subject matter expert
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional culture where doctors and veterinary nurses can thrive
- Mentor and support veterinarians in their clinical development and career growth
- Partner with the Medical Director and Hospital Director on hospital initiatives and medical operations
- Collaborate with Ethos Regional Leadership to advance clinical standards, operational excellence, and strategic priorities
- Help identify opportunities to improve patient care, medical workflows, and the overall client and referring veterinarian experience
- Promote consistent, compassionate, and evidence-based medical practices
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of veterinary professionals
- Help facilitate communication and collaboration across specialty, emergency, and integrative medicine teams
- Maintain an active clinical caseload and provide exceptional patient and client care

In your day-to-day, you will:
- Provide compassionate, comprehensive, and high-quality veterinary care
- Serve as a medical leader and resource for the hospital's clinical team
- Mentor veterinarians and support their continued professional and clinical development
- Partner with the Medical Director on medical quality, standards, and hospital initiatives
- Collaborate with the Hospital Director and Ethos Regional Leadership Team to support operational excellence
- Help foster a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, psychological safety, and continuous learning
- Identify opportunities to improve clinical workflows, patient care, and team efficiency
- Support communication and collaboration among specialty, Emergency, and Integrative Medicine services
- Participate in medical team meetings, case discussions, and hospital initiatives
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality veterinary professionals
- Help uphold SAGE's commitment to compassionate, ethical, and fear-free patient care
- Maintain a clinical caseload while balancing administrative and leadership responsibilities
What You Bring
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for California veterinary licensure
- Several years of clinical veterinary experience with a demonstrated commitment to high-quality patient care
- Previous leadership, mentorship, or management experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build trust and positive relationships across diverse teams
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively with doctors, veterinary nurses, hospital leadership, and regional leadership
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- A passion for developing people and building high-performing clinical teams
- Commitment to continuous learning, medical excellence, and exceptional patient care
- Ability to balance clinical responsibilities with administrative and leadership priorities
