Description
Organizational Overview: Los Angeles County Medical Association
Founded in 1871, the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) is one of the nation's largest physician membership organizations, representing more than 7,100 physicians, residents, medical students, retirees, and healthcare leaders across one of the country's most dynamic healthcare markets. Affiliated with the California Medical Association (CMA), LACMA serves as the trusted voice of organized medicine in Los Angeles County, strengthening the practice of medicine, advocating for physicians and patients, and improving healthcare across the region.
Today, LACMA serves a diverse membership that includes physicians in independent and small practices, major health systems and medical groups, health plans, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), academic medical centers, and organizations such as UCLA Health, Southern California Permanente Medical Group, AltaMed Health Services, and Facey Medical Group. Through advocacy, education, strategic partnerships, professional development, continuing medical education, and practical business resources, LACMA helps physicians navigate the rapidly changing healthcare environment while strengthening their ability to deliver exceptional patient care.
What distinguishes LACMA is its role as a trusted convener and problem solver. The organization brings together physicians, hospitals, health plans, policymakers, and healthcare leaders to address issues ranging from reimbursement challenges and physician workforce shortages to practice transformation, public policy, and access to care. Through collaborative partnerships and physician-led initiatives, LACMA helps shape solutions that strengthen both the medical profession and the communities it serves.
Operating with a budget of approximately $2 million and a dedicated team of five professionals, LACMA is entering an exciting period of opportunity. Under the leadership of its retiring CEO, the organization has expanded strategic partnerships, strengthened its membership value proposition, and reinforced its reputation as a trusted voice for physicians across Los Angeles County. The next CEO will inherit a strong foundation and an exceptional opportunity to expand membership, deepen influence, and shape the future of physician advocacy in one of the nation's most dynamic healthcare markets.
