The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) invites applications for full-time, open-rank faculty positions for board-certified or board-eligible child and adolescent psychiatrists to join a growing academic faculty. Positions are primarily outpatient and consultation based, with opportunities available across a range of clinical programs and practice models. Faculty appointments are available at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, commensurate with training and experience.

Positions are available in Little Rock (Central Arkansas).

As the state’s only academic health sciences center, UAMS serves as the referral hub for child and adolescent mental health across Arkansas. The Department of Psychiatry is committed to advancing mental health through innovative and high-impact research, evidence-based clinical care, and comprehensive training programs.

Clinical Opportunities Available

•     General outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry
•     Consultation-liaison psychiatry serving pediatric medical, surgical, and emergency services
•     Integrated and collaborative care embedded with pediatric primary care
•     School-based behavioral health programs
•     Telehealth and statewide outreach serving rural and underserved communities
•     Subspecialty and focused-interest clinics, including early childhood, neurodevelopmental, trauma, and substance use

Little Rock and Central Arkansas

Little Rock sits on the Arkansas River at the center of the state, anchoring a metro of roughly 750,000. It is a capital city at a manageable scale: most faculty commute 15 to 20 minutes, and the medical campus, airport, and downtown are all close together. The cost of living runs well below the national average, and a physician's salary buys considerably more house here than in most academic markets, whether in the walkable older neighborhoods near campus like the Heights and Hillcrest or the newer construction west of town. Outdoor activities abound: Pinnacle Mountain State Park is 20 minutes away, the Arkansas River Trail runs a 15-mile paved loop through the city, and Hot Springs, Lake Ouachita, and the Ouachita Mountains are all within an easy drive. The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, the Clinton Presidential Center, a resident symphony and repertory theatre, and a genuine independent restaurant scene round out the city.

Requirements

•     MD or DO degree with completion of an ACGME-accredited child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship
•     Board certified or board eligible in child and adolescent psychiatry
•     Eligible for an unrestricted Arkansas medical license and DEA registration
•     Commitment to excellent patient care, teaching, and collaborative practice
