- Electric Manager - Power Production

Are you passionate about continuous improvement and maintenance of power generation equipment?
The City of Redding Electric Utility is seeking an individual to fill one Electric Manager - Power Production vacancy with the Power Plant Division of the Redding Electric Utility Department to provide supervision and leadership in constructing, modifying, operating, and maintaining the City's electrical power generation facilities to supply reliable, economical power to utility customers.
We are looking for someone to provide for:
- The management of the City of Redding's electric power plant(s), including supervision of staff assigned to plant operation, plant maintenance, and equipment maintenance;
- Air quality and water discharge monitoring and compliance with all applicable permits, rules, regulations, ordinances, and local, state, and federal laws;
Reporting including: - Power plant operational efficiency reports including net generation, auxiliary load, fuel used in start up, gross generation, operating availability, equivalent availability, and capacity factor;
- Accurate power production cost reports on a regular basis;
- Maintenance reports including detailed information on forced outages and remedial actions taken or recommended;
- Well-justified and concise scheduled outages;
- Power plant site maintenance such as weed control, dust control, road repair, and fencing;
- Noise control as may be required by local, state, or federal rules, regulations, ordinances and/or laws;
- Cooperative work with the members of the Electric Utility management and other City departments;
- Coordination and cooperation with the Electric Utility System Operation Center to meet the City's power generation schedules and reserve demands;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate is an experienced power generation leader with strong technical knowledge and sound financial judgment. They will develop skilled teams, promote safety and accountability, and ensure reliable, efficient plant operations. They will participate fully as a member of the utility’s leadership team, collaborating across divisions to shape and advance a shared strategic direction.
Requirements
Qualifications we're looking for
Knowledge of
- Electrical power generation equipment, high pressure steam production boilers, boiler water chemistry, natural gas-fired boilers, and combustion turbines,
- small hydroelectric power generation projects,
- management and leadership principles,
- labor relations,
- budget preparation,
- environmental laws,
- rules and regulations relevant to the operation of a natural gas-fired electrical power production facility,
- and CAL-OSHA regulations relevant to the type of work and facilities to be managed.
Ability to

Education
Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a professional registration.
Experience
Typical experience would include seven years of combined relevant experience in steam-powered utility or co-generation electrical power production, including five years of management/supervision experience.
