ScoutR is building a feline-first model of veterinary care that combines in-home visits, telehealth follow-up for established patients, and a technology platform that brings health-monitoring and diagnostic data together over time. Our goal is simple: help veterinary teams and cat families recognize meaningful changes sooner, make better-informed care decisions, and support longer, healthier lives together.

ScoutR is a female-founded, locally owned company preparing to launch in Orange County. We are building a sustainable veterinary practice designed to provide a better experience for cats, the people who love them, and the professionals who care for them.

The Opportunity

We are looking for ScoutR’s Founding Veterinarian and Clinical Lead—our first full-time clinician and a central member of the founding team.

This is not a conventional associate veterinarian position. You will care for patients while helping build the clinical model behind the practice, including its protocols, workflows, standards of care, technology integrations, and future veterinary team.

The role offers high trust, meaningful ownership, and the opportunity to shape a new model of feline care from the ground up. As ScoutR grows, this position may expand into a formal Medical Director role. We are also open to structuring the position as Medical Director at launch for a candidate with the appropriate leadership experience and interest.

Schedule and Work-Life Sustainability

The Founding Veterinarian will have meaningful input into the design of the clinical schedule, including regular working days, patient-facing hours, administrative time, and the balance between mobile-clinic and in-home appointments.

There are no on-call, overnight, or after-hours emergency coverage expectations. ScoutR will establish clear referral relationships for patients requiring emergency or specialty care.

What You’ll Do

•  Deliver feline primary care through in-home visits and ScoutR’s mobile clinic, including preventive care, sick visits, diagnostics, dentistry, and selected soft-tissue procedures.
•  Establish veterinarian-client-patient relationships and provide telehealth follow-up when clinically appropriate.
•  Develop ScoutR’s clinical protocols, quality standards, referral guidelines, and escalation procedures in collaboration with our veterinary advisors.
•  Exercise independent clinical judgment over patient care and help ensure a consistently high standard of medicine.
•  Interpret data from ScoutR’s health-monitoring and diagnostic tools and determine how that information can meaningfully support clinical decisions.
•  Help evaluate and improve the clinical features of ScoutR’s digital products.
•  Participate in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring RVTs, veterinary assistants, and future veterinarians.
•  Help establish practical launch systems for medical records, pharmacy, inventory, client communication, and continuity of care.
•  Serve as a trusted clinical voice for ScoutR within the company and the Orange County community.

Requirements

What You Bring

•  DVM or VMD degree.
•  Active California veterinary license in good standing, or eligibility to obtain one before the start date.
•  At least three years of small-animal clinical experience; strong feline experience is preferred.
•  Confidence performing feline dentistry and common soft-tissue procedures.
•  Strong clinical judgment and comfort practicing independently.
•  A genuine interest in feline medicine and low-stress, cat-centered care.
•  Curiosity about emerging technology and the judgment to distinguish useful clinical information from noise.
•  Clear, compassionate communication with clients and colleagues.
•  Comfort building protocols, systems, and culture rather than stepping into an established playbook.
•  Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and ability to meet ScoutR’s commercial vehicle-insurance requirements.
•  Comfort operating a company-provided mobile veterinary vehicle and traveling throughout South Orange County.

Helpful, but Not Required

•  Mobile or house-call veterinary experience.
•  Medical leadership or mentoring experience.
•  Telemedicine experience.
•  Fear Free or feline-friendly certification.
•  Experience helping launch or grow a veterinary practice.

 Experience advising on clinical software, digital products, remote monitoring, or health data

Compensation and Benefits

•  Base salary of $140,000–$150,000, depending on experience.
•  Performance-based bonus opportunity.
