Import Compliance SpecialistThe Import Compliance Specialist will support the DOE, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, and reports to the Director of Federal Services. This position is Full Time Temporary and 100% remote.

The Import Compliance Specialist will provide hands-on import compliance support, focusing on tariff classification accuracy, customs documentation review, and coordination with customs brokers. The role will serve as a subject-matter expert on all areas of import compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Review import transactions and documentation to ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
- Validate and audit Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) classifications.
- Work closely with the external Customs Broker to resolve classification discrepancies and compliance issues.
- Review, prepare, and support customs applications/forms related to duty-free entry and special classification provisions for duty free entry.
- Support internal reviews and audits of import activity to identify risks and corrective actions.
- Advise internal stakeholders on tariff impacts and compliance requirements.
- Maintain compliant records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure regulatory compliance by staying updated about changes to Customs laws and regulations, tariff measures, and HTS changes.
Required Skills & Experience
- Current Customs License
- 5+ years of experience in import compliance.
- Strong working knowledge of HTSUS classification and U.S. Customs regulations.
- Experience collaborating directly with Customs Brokers.
- Demonstrated experience with duty-free entry provisions and customs documentation.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting scientific, research, or government-related imports.
- Prior in-house import compliance experience.
- Familiarity with tariff mitigation strategies, and CBP's Trade Remedy programs, Customs Rulings, and knowledge of current and newly proposed tariff measures
- Experience with ACE and ACE Reports
