Position Summary
Watershed Progressive is seeking a Licensed Landscape Architect to join our multidisciplinary team. This role will provide senior-level design leadership and technical expertise on landscape architecture, watershed-based design, and regenerative site planning projects.
The Licensed Landscape Architect will lead and support site assessments, landscape design, construction documentation, client and consultant coordination, Water Management Plans, and the integration of strategies such as stormwater management, greywater reuse, rainwater harvesting, climate-appropriate planting, and resilient landscape systems.
This position is ideal for a licensed professional who is technically strong, collaborative, mission-aligned, and comfortable working across design, planning, construction, and community-based project environments.
Key Responsibilities
The Licensed Landscape Architect will be responsible for:
Developing and leading landscape architecture design work from concept through construction documentation.
Preparing site plans, planting plans, grading and drainage concepts, irrigation-related design, technical drawings, and landscape design graphics.
Supporting the development of Water Management Plans and integrated regenerative design strategies.
Coordinating with clients, consultants, engineers, architects, contractors, agency partners, and internal project teams.
Providing design leadership and quality control across project deliverables.
Collaborating with Environmental Designers, Engineers, Planners, Creative Development staff, and Field/Construction teams.
Supporting construction administration and design-build coordination as needed.
Mentoring and supporting staff in design software, technical workflows, and effective landscape design practices.
Helping advance Watershed Progressive’s approach to multi-benefit design, including stormwater management, water reuse, rainwater harvesting, native and climate-appropriate planting, and resilient watershed-based landscapes.
Managing multiple projects or project tasks while maintaining clear communication, organization, and accountability.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture.
An active California Landscape Architect license is required.
Minimum of 7 years of related professional experience.
Strong experience leading site planning, landscape design, and construction documentation.
High proficiency in AutoCAD; Land-FX experience preferred.
Advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
Strong knowledge of grading, drainage, planting design, irrigation systems, and construction documentation.
Knowledge of California native plants, climate-appropriate planting, and regional site conditions.
Experience coordinating with clients, engineers, architects, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently, remotely, and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with holistic, multi-benefit, nature-based, or regenerative design.
Experience with stormwater management, Low Impact Design, greywater reuse, rainwater harvesting, or other water reuse systems.
Experience with SketchUp, Rhino, or other 3D modeling and rendering software.
Experience managing projects, mentoring staff, or leading design teams.
Experience with public-sector, grant-funded, or community-based projects.
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining strong attention to detail.
