Description
The County of Kings is seeking an innovative and service-driven Library Director to lead its public library system and strengthen community access to lifelong learning. This executive-level role oversees all library operations, including strategic planning, budgeting, staff leadership, capital projects, and development of system-wide policies and services. The ideal candidate will be an experienced library professional with strong management, communication, and collaboration skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service and organizational excellence. The position includes a comprehensive Management Level I benefits package, featuring CalPERS retirement, fully paid PPO health, dental, vision, and chiropractic coverage for employees and dependents, deferred compensation with a County match, generous leave accruals, and access to an onsite employee health center. Candidates must hold a master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and have at least four (4) years of progressively responsible managerial or administrative experience in a full-service library system. The Library Director is an at-will department head appointed by the County Executive Officer. Requirements
Education:
Equivalent to a master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university with major coursework in Library Science.
Experience:
Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience overseeing and administering the programs, services, and activities of a full-service library system in a managerial or administrative capacity.
Special Requirements:
Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check, which includes a credit check. Ability to work irregular hours as necessary and travel within and outside the County.
