The Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (CCE) at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for a Long-Term Lecturer in Chemical Engineering, with teaching to begin in the 2026–2027 academic year. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with instructional responsibilities during the fall, winter, and spring terms (no summer teaching), along with ongoing student support and mentorship outside the classroom. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026. The initial appointment is for three years, with the possibility of (non-tenure-track) renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and programmatic need.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have prior teaching experience at the college/university level. We seek candidates with the versatility to teach courses across multiple areas and levels of the undergraduate Chemical Engineering curriculum. The candidate will play a role in developing new programs that ensure student success. There will also be opportunities for interested candidates to understand how instructional and pedagogical approaches, as well as programs developed outside the classroom, impact student outcomes.

Priority will be given to applications received by June 15th and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a brief cover letter (up to one page); a curriculum vita (including publications and classes taught); an education statement that addresses the applicant's past and current experiences that are relevant to the Long-Term Lecturer position, as well as future vision - this includes philosophy on effective strategies for classroom teaching, mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, and programs outside the classroom setting that if created would enhance student success (up to two pages); copies of all teaching evaluations from the last three years; and three letters of recommendation.
The Chemical Engineering program at Caltech offers a unique environment for innovative and interdisciplinary teaching and research within a highly collegial community. Class sizes are small, usually up to 15 students per course.
