Position Overview
Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center & Urgent Care is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and experienced veterinarian to serve as our Medical Director. This role is designed for a doctor who enjoys practicing high-quality medicine while helping support and guide a team of veterinarians in a positive, team-oriented environment.
The Medical Director is first and foremost a practicing veterinarian who leads by example. Rather than managing every aspect of hospital operations, the Medical Director focuses on supporting medical excellence, mentoring doctors, encouraging professional growth, and helping ensure a consistent, high standard of patient care.
This position offers the opportunity to influence the future of a growing hospital while maintaining a healthy balance between leadership responsibilities and clinical practice.
What You'll Do
- Provide Outstanding Patient Care
- Maintain an active clinical schedule seeing appointments, urgent care cases, and performing surgery based on your interests and experience.
- Practice high-quality, evidence-based medicine.
- Support complex case management and collaborative patient care.
- Promote exceptional client communication and service.
- Support and Mentor Veterinarians
- Serve as a resource and mentor for associate veterinarians.
- Help onboard and support newly hired doctors.
- Encourage professional development and continuing education.
- Foster a collaborative environment where doctors feel comfortable discussing cases and asking questions.
- Assist in developing clinical confidence and medical decision-making skills across the team.
- Promote Medical Excellence
- Help establish and maintain hospital medical standards and protocols.
- Encourage consistency in patient care and medical record keeping.
- Participate in case discussions and medical rounds.
- Support implementation of new medical services, equipment, and best practices.
- Partner with Hospital Leadership
- Work closely with the Hospital Director and Operations Team.
- Provide input on doctor recruiting, retention, and development.
- Help identify opportunities for hospital growth and service expansion.
- Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree.
- California veterinary license in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years of small animal clinical experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for mentorship and team development.
- Commitment to high-quality patient care.
Preferred
- Previous leadership, mentorship, or Medical Director experience.
- Urgent care or emergency medicine experience.
- Interest in developing new services and expanding medical capabilities.
- Experience mentoring recent graduates.
