We are seeking an experienced tax manager with an active CPA license to join our growing public accounting firm on the central coast. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, solving complex tax issues, providing strategic tax advice, and developing relationships that extend beyond tax compliance.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in public accounting and a strong understanding of federal and state taxation, and a strong background in financial services, GAAP, tax accounting, financial planning, and accounting software. The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing tax compliance and planning engagements, reviewing complex tax returns, advising clients on tax matters, supervising staff, and serving as a trusted advisor to individuals and businesses. We are looking for someone who takes pride in being technically proficient, client-focused, organized, and is interested in long-term professional growth. The position offers significant exposure to complex tax matters and business advisory opportunities, as well as the opportunity to work closely with firm leadership and a diverse client base.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage tax compliance and planning for a diverse portfolio of individual and business clients
- Prepare and review complex tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, and other entities
- Research and resolve complex federal and state tax issues, including responding to IRS, FTB, and other tax notices
- Provide proactive tax planning and consulting, identifying opportunities and developing strategies tailored to client needs
- Advise clients on the tax implications of business decisions, transactions, entity structures, and other significant financial events
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual tax projections, estimated tax payments, and related planning
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and communicating complex tax matters clearly and effectively
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of staff, while managing engagements and collaborating with partners and internal teams
Qualifications:
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting is a plus
- Experience in public accounting with a strong focus on individual and entity taxation
- Demonstrated experience preparing and/or reviewing complex individual and business tax returns
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations
- Experience with tax research, planning, projections, and consulting
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple engagements, priorities, and deadlines independently
- Ability to work effectively with clients and supervise other professionals
- Proficiency in Microsoft and QuickBooks products; experience with ProSystem FX Tax products preferred
